About the Condition
Do you ever experience sudden waves of intense fear that come out of nowhere — a racing heart, shortness of breath, dizziness, or the feeling that something terrible is about to happen? Do you find yourself avoiding places or situations because you're afraid another attack might strike? These episodes can be a sign of panic disorder, which may leave you feeling exhausted, isolated, and uncertain when the next attack might come.
Symptoms of Panic Disorder
Sudden, unexpected panic attacks
Racing heart or heart palpitations
Shortness of breath or feeling of being smothered
Chest pain or tightness
Dizziness, lightheadedness, or feeling faint
Trembling, shaking, or sweating
Sense of unreality or detachment from yourself
Fear of losing control or "going crazy"
Persistent worry about having another attack
Avoidance of places or situations where attacks have occurred
